Second wave of COVID-19 could ‘prove fatal’ for business



A report from the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) and Opinium has revealed that 591,000 firms at currently at high risk of going under due to the COVID-19 pandemic – around one in ten of all UK businesses. The study found that around 250,000 firms would not survive another month of lockdown, while a three-month lockdown could spell the end for 1.1m firms, and a second wave of the virus and new lockdown measures “could prove fatal for the business community.” Senior CEBR economist Pablo Shah said the report provides “the first glimpse of the deep and long-term scars that the coronavirus crisis is set to inflict upon the UK economy.”.
