Contractors and those who work through personal service companies (PSCs) may not be eligible for government support for lost earnings as a result of coronavirus. To access grant funding via the Self-employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS), contractors must have been self-employed for a complete tax year and not paid themselves a mix of a salary and dividends.
As many contractors who work via a PSC often pay themselves a salary and dividends they will not be able to access the SEISS. Instead they must apply for support via the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, which provides 80% of a worker's salary.
